What Cost Renewal

Rain falls, rivers break,

Old roads are shattered apart.

Heaven touches earth.

Lives plunged into turbulence,

Balance regained at a cost.

Looking Back

Hollow the heart feels.

Regret is lost to time—

Memories float free.

Transitions

Blessings fall from sky,

Wiping away the shimmer.

The earth sweeps away.

Overhead stars mix with dust,

Skyline painted timely blue.

Short Days

Waterways frozen,

Wounded winter duck on wing.

Withering wind blows.

A New Journey

The world is impermanent—ever changing.

When I first created this page, my intention was to make a space where I could practice my spirituality, express what I was feeling, and find some measure of solace. Many years later, the crooked path has led me into new places and experiences.

I have moved from the role of priest into that of a householder within the Chan tradition. I still carry the title of Reverend, but my work has changed. I now try to help create community and to make a home where my family may live with peace, care, and awakening.

This change has opened a new way forward: another crooked path.

During my sabbatical, I found a wise-woman who has helped me along that path. Along the way came the realization that I am AuDHD—autistic and living with ADHD. This was unsurprising to many in my Sangha, but it brought its own set of understandings and realizations.

Among them was the recognition that many of my struggles have been efforts to become a better person within the broader world. They were not wasted battles. But the strategy must now change.

With this recognition—of a new path in my journey, and with the hope of greater understanding—I begin posting again. Here you will find my usual poetry, along with the musings of a changeling finding his way through an uncomfortable world.

Return South

Swallows in the sky,

Nests waiting in mulberry.

Pilgrimage circle.

Winter respite completed,

Final frost left in the north.

Road

Silent the morning.

In the darkness before dawn,

Chaparral scents air.

Black pathway stretches onward,

Into the golden morning.

Promise

Fallow the earth lays.

In the treetops life springs forth,

Deep roots waken first.

Nine Tales

Cool feast day in hell.

Red suit and tails wedding,

Poison bells ringing.
