Today is the Summer Solstice at the retreat. This marks the longest “day” of the year, with day meaning sunlit hours. The midsummer festival, present in many different religions and faiths, celebrates the strength of the sun as both a life giver and a banisher of darkness. Marking the beginning of summer, it is a time of celebraition for many as families take vacations, visit relatives, and see other locations. In the traditional earth religions, it is a time to mark the blooming of crops and the impending harvest around the fall equinox. In almost all cases, it is a time of joy and celebraition. Take time to stand in the sun today and let the warmth flow over you. For our ancestors and even many today, this warmth marks life, family, and prosperity.
